Alone & Unprepared

You never realize how important they are,
Until they leave and you are alone,

What makes it unbearable are the little things,
Like not being able to fall asleep next to your lover,
Not being able to kiss her or him to sleep,
Waking up next to nobody,
Missing her crazy morning hair,
Calling out for him or her,
Even though they aren’t near,

It hurts like hell,
Standing in the bathroom,
Two toothbrushes,
Two deodorants,
When you see her favorite nightgown,
Hanging on the clothing rack,
That is when you breakdown and cry,

You never realize how important they are,
Until they leave and you are alone,

Doesn’t matter it is women’s deodorant,
I miss her too much,
Can’t sleep because the bed is empty,
Tried sleeping on her side,
It didn’t work,

Being alone especially when you are sick,
Mentally unstable,
Needing all the love and support possible,
It is terrifying,
Thought I could do it,
Now she’s gone,
On an airplane,
Renewing her Green-card,

You never realize how important they are,
Until they leave and you are alone,

Nothing could be worse,
Needing comfort as a broken man,
Don’t want anybody to know I am weak,
Holding back tears in public,
Locking the bathroom door in a coffee shop,
Staring in the mirror,
Asking for ‘Mercy’,
Nobody can replace her,
Tempted to go out and get drunk on whiskey,

It had to happen,
We planned the trip,
We both counted down the days,
Preparing ourselves for this day,
When it arrived,
Neither of us were ready,
Hugging and kissing in the airport,
Both of us trying to stay strong,
In front of the in-laws,

You never realize how important they are,
Until they leave and you are alone,
