Why I Believe In Islam

When asked who inspires me,
Names of 3 unsung heroes come to mind,

Hadrat Ka‘b bin Mālik
Hadrat Ka‘b bin Zuhayr
Hadrat ‘AbdAllāh bin Rawāha

Learned a long time ago,
We have be thankful for all the worldly bounties,
Blessed are we in this life and the hereafter,
Every task given,
Blame only yourself for failure,
While a litany of woes are destined to strike,

Don’t forget about the bounties,
Provided by Allah,
For those who forget are doomed to lead,
An unblessed life,
Sooner than later,
Met with disaster in this life and the hereafter,

Whether Agnostic or Christian,
Jewish or Muslim,
Atheist or Rastafarian,

Riches of this world,
Are not to be relied upon,
Silver, gold, and chariots,
Learn a profession,
For they in themselves are wealth,

بنى‌آدم اعضای یک پیکرند
که در آفرینش ز یک گوهرند
چو عضوى به درد آورَد روزگار
دگر عضوها را نمانَد قرار
تو کز محنت دیگران بی‌غمی
نشاید که نامت نهند آدمی

Remember Adam’s son are limbs of a body,
Created from the same clay,
Should one organ be troubled by pain,
Others will suffer severe strain,
Give in charity for travesty does not discriminate,

Dreaming of Rasulullah SAW’s sword,
From which light is derived,
Do you remember reading of Ka’b?

Is he inclined towards that which is wrong?
Criticized whereas it is most resolute,
Come to Allah and not towards Uzza nor Laat,
You will then attain salvation on the day,
When none shall escape from the Fire,
Except the pure-hearted Muslim,

Inna’r Rasula lasaifun yustadaau bihi
Muhannadun min Suyufillahi maslulu
Fee fityatin min Quraysh-in qaala qaailuhum
Bibatni Makkata lamma aslamu zulu
Zaalu fama zaala ankaasun walaa kushufun
‘Indalliqaai walaa meelu ma’aazeelu
Shummul ‘araaneeni abtaalun labusuhum
Min nasji Dawud-a fi’l hayjaa saraabeelu

Source of light,
Indian Blade,
Drawn sword of God’s swords,
Amid Quraysh companions,

When they chose Islam in Mecca’s vale,
Men said, “Be gone!”,
They went, not weaklings, not as men that flee,
Swaying upon their mounts and poorly armed,
As heroes proud and noble men,
Bright-clad in mail of David’s weave for the encounter,
