Qabyaalada

I challenge every Somali, old and young, tribalistic and ignorant. Name every tribe (and/or the name of the clan which encompasses it)…

I’m waiting…

Abdalla Sabdi, Absame, Ajuran, Aulihan, Bimaal, Darod, Degoodi, Dhulbahante, Dir (clan), Eli dheere, Gaalje’el, Gadabuursi, Gardhere,, Garre, Geledi, Harti, Hawadle, House of Galluweger, Isaaq, Issa, Lailkase, Majeerteen, Marehan, Midgan, Muse, Ogaden, Osman Mahmoud, Qubeys, Rahanweyn, Rer Aw Hassan, Saleban Abdalle, Samaale, Sheekhaal, Surre, Ugaar Saleebaan, Warsangali, Yibir

This is the part where a storyteller spits fire…

Tifka roobka dayruhu
Onkod buu la taamaa
Waxay hoga-tusaysaa
Afka nolosha waw tiir
La’aantiisna tuur iyo

How can you live out the legacy of chiefs, queens, and medicine men,
If you can’t remember them through the language they spoke, read, and wrote,
They believed that the land under their feet was not deserving of a map,
Nor the naming of a specific nation but a place of residence,
For all of Allah’s creation,

Tulux lagama waayeen
Tayo may lahaateen
Dhaqan lama tallaaleen
Qaran lama tusmaysteen
Nin kastaa ha tookhee
Far baa lagu tanaadaa

While a man may become that of a paper weight,
So can a woman who defames the elegance of Aisha (ra) or Faitma (ra),
It all started when a letter was written by a northerner,
Who sent it to a southerner,
Due to the absence of language,
That letter was thrown away,

Dhulka oo cagaaroo
Cosobkii dul-saarraa
Cabbanaan daraaddeed
Ciidda hoose raantiyo

Allah handcrafted the grass under your feet,
Made it possible for you to grow and prosper,
Just as He fulfills promises,
Soil can bring disaster,

Sagal caasha saaraad
La wadaagtey caanoo
Haddaan caawo kale jirin
Cidi kaama garateen

Buuraha ag joogsoo
Amakaag daraaddii
Ilmo gabax ka siiyoo

I beg you,
Marvel at Allah’s creation,
Humble yourself,

Uumiyaha dhammaantii
Ilma-adeer gudboon iyo
Isir baad tihiinoo

Did Allah not refer to us as an Ummah,
Have you lost your way,
Forgot about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh),
His love of Bilal (ra),

Waa sida indhaha oo
Kolkay midi ilmaysaa
Ta kaleeto ooydaa
Looma uumin keligaa
Inay kuu adeegaan

Haddaan la hinjin weligeedba talo, way hawirantaaye
Soomaaliyeey wixii horiyo, haatan iyo eegga
Hiddihiyo intaan dhaqanka iyo, haybtayada guurin
Ciiddeenna hodanka ah intaan, nacabku hayl-haylin
Oo haayir noo yimid arlada, naga hadhiinaysan

Civil War has struck,
Drones strike the land,
Foreigners claim a black and white flag,
Failure produced,
Heritage meant to cultivate,
Yet it was coerced and became a tribalistic disease,

Hubka dhiga dagaalkana hojiya, haayinta colaadda
Haaraanka gacal waw xunyee, ciilqabka hilmaama
Hambo-qabasho mooyee markaa, haayid kale daaya

For our Creator reminds us,
He does not like transgressors,
Healing and holding onto hope He loves,
