Indentured Servitude

Some ask me to rhyme but I am not free of this life,
Not know how many freed slaves escaped,
Started to dream while sleeping under trees,

Wishing to flee,
Proclaiming fire-flies free,
Abandoning fear,
Anticipate failure,

Regardless of ‘perceived’ intelligence,

I am not ‘your’ poet,
I am not ‘the’ poet,
I am not ‘a’ poet,

Distance between greatness to madness,
Disqualified from being a witness,

Don’t remember the last time I fell…

Smoked many trees,
Fell asleep in dreams,,
Fortified sanctuary against sieges,

Earned purples hearts,
Valor of honor,
Bravery executed tragedy,

Lemonade stands,
Jump-rope projects,
Body chalk-lines,

Forgive me…

I am not ‘your’ love poet,
I am not ‘the’ love poet,
I am not ‘a’ love poet,

Between lines,
Cheap Tuesday movie night,

One dollar menus,
Picnics,
Star gazing,

Call me a bedouin,
Call me a nomad,
Call me a pirate,

In times of madness spawn love…
